About
the cartoonist
Janet
Smith was born in Boston and grew up in northern New York. Her love for
art and drawing began when she was studying for her degree in Psychology
and Special Education at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY.
Janet worked as a teacher for nearly 20 years. She often used art
as a vehicle of expression to teach children with special needs. Now she continues her love for education by serving on
various local school and youth boards.
In
the summer of the year 2000 Janet created the “Julie and Kate”
cartoons. The following
spring her friend Gail started selling these cartoons in her sporting
goods store. Since then, the products have grown in popularity and are
bought by women from all over the US and Canada.
Janet
has three grown children. She lives with her husband and their grey cat,
named Baby, in an old farmhouse on a country road in Lake Placid, New
York.
